Leak Detection System and Method

CVProducts has developed and patented the most sensitive valve leak detection system specifically designed for quality control and sampling system validation. This innovative technology represents a paradigm shift from traditional helium-based approaches, delivering superior performance at a fraction of the cost.

Superior Sensitivity for Capillary-Type Leaks

Our nitrogen-based valve leak detection system achieves approximately 4 times better sensitivity than conventional helium detectors for capillary-type leaks—the most common leak mechanism found in valves, fittings, and sampling systems. This breakthrough is based on fundamental physics: nitrogen’s lower kinematic viscosity (1.51 E-5 m²/s compared to helium’s 11.40 E-5 m²/s) allows it to flow more easily through capillary channels, making leak detection significantly more effective.

Cost-Effective and Practical

Traditional helium-based mass spectrometry leak detection systems cost $35,000 or more and require expensive helium supplies that have become increasingly scarce and costly. Our valve leak detection system uses affordable industrial nitrogen cylinders (under $100) or even atmospheric air (which contains 79% nitrogen), making it accessible for manufacturers of all sizes. The portable design allows for use in manufacturing facilities, laboratories, and field applications.

Proven Quality Assurance

This patented valve leak detection system is used to test every CVProducts valve during development and manufacturing, ensuring the exceptional quality and reliability our customers depend on. The technology has been refined over years of use and is documented in our comprehensive technical note, which details the methodology, system configuration, and operational procedures.

Versatile Applications

Beyond valve testing, this leak detection system is invaluable for:

  • – Valve and fitting manufacturers requiring quality control
  • – Process plant start-up teams validating sampling systems
  • – Complete sampling system leak testing
  • – Any application requiring high-sensitivity capillary leak detection

The system’s ability to detect both capillary and permeation-type leaks, combined with its portability and affordability, makes it an essential tool for any organization requiring the highest standards of leak detection performance.
